Why study Cognitive Science at the University of Warsaw?

Cognitive Science is the interdisciplinary study of the mind and intelligent behaviour. It brings together theories and methods from fields such as psychology, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, linguistics, philosophy, and computer science.

Designed to welcome students with a wide range of academic backgrounds, CogSci @ UW programme is organised into thematic modules. This flexible structure allows students with a BA in Cognitive Science to significantly deepen and extend their training, while also making the programme accessible and attractive to graduates from other fields who wish to engage with cognitive science from their own disciplinary perspectives.

Research Environment

Warsaw offers a vibrant research environment. It is home not only to the University of Warsaw—one of the leading academic institutions in Central and Eastern Europe—but also to many major research institutes. CogSci @ UW draws on this rich environment and benefits from collaborations across these institutions.

From the second semester onward, students become part of research labs associated with the programme. Through these labs they collaborate with leading researchers and contribute to active research projects. They gain hands-on experience with research at all its stages: planning and designing studies, learning new methods, developing analytical skills, and participating in dissemination and outreach.

The range of labs varies from year to year, but always covers a broad interdisciplinary spectrum of topics, from neuroimaging and experimental studies to computational modelling.

Where It Can Lead

Our graduates develop analytical, computational, and research skills that are valuable in many fields. Many go on to pursue doctoral studies and academic research, while others work in areas such as data analysis, artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction, or science communication.
